Sister Mary Angela first appears in Untamed as a nun and the owner of Street Cats. Zoey, Aphrodite, and Darius are surprised to learn that she does not have any hate against the vampyres, seeing Nyx as another form of a Catholic figure, Mary. Zoey forms a close bond with her, and asks her to watch over her grandmother in the hospital. At the end of "Untamed", she takes Zoey's grandmother underground to prevent harm from Kalona as Zoey had requested if they could not stop him from coming to the surface. In Hunted, it is revealed she is Spirit to banish Kalona and joins Zoey at the end to help her do so.
