The story starts with Kalona's point of view, witch explains what happened in Tempted. However, the story really starts when Neferet turns up and discovers that, although he is immortal, he can be injured through his spirit. Using this to her advantage, Neferet binds him with darkness and sends him after Zoey.

As the story goes on, Stevie Rae and Rephaim get into their own trouble. After several risky meetings, however, Stevie Rae learns from Aphrodite that there are two forms that can help her. Light and Darkness. However, Aphrodite failed to mention that the black bull was good, and Stevie Rae calls the Dark one instead. Rephaim senses her fear and saves her by offering up a blood debt, which gives her time to summon Light.
